In fact, many people choose a lighter flywheel for faster revs. The negative side of that is more vibration and harshness. The dual-mass flywheel is designed to have the spinning mass isolated from the vibrating engine, so it's just smoother.

Welcome to the the world of noiZe and soundZ. It's pretty normal on a Z, especially the first generation if I recall correctly.
